Qur'an Component for Joomla! 1.0.x

Fresh Installation

MySQL

1) Before you upload the zip package through Joomla! component installer, you must insert the SQL files. Open the sql directory that came in this zip file. You will see two directories- "Quran_arabic" and "Quran_english". The Quran_arabic directory contains Arabic Verses and the Quran_english directory contains English Verses. Each directory has the following sql files. 1-1000.sql will create table and insert verses from 1 to 1000, 1001-2000.sql will insert verses from 1001-2000, and so on.

  1. Go to your PhpMyAdmin, command line, or whatever you use for SQL management.
  2. Click on wherever your Joomla! database is. (pic)
  3. Click the Import button on top. (pic)
  4. Upload all the arabic files into your database, starting from 1-1000.sql. Make sure you import them in order. If required, set the character set of file to "latin1". (pic)
  5. Repeat step 4 with the english files.
  6. NOTE: Sometimes during import you need to wait. Don't worry, its a big file so it takes a while. Nothings wrong unless you are waiting like 15 minutes or so.

Component

2) Upload com_quran.zip package through Joomla! component installer. You can add your new component to Main Menu and publish it after that.

4) IMPORTANT: As the Qur'an component will display Arabic letters on your site, you need to edit the charset of your site, from 'iso-8859-1' to 'windows-1256'. This adjustment is needed to encode the page into Arabic windows. Don't worry, it shouldn't negatively affect your current Joomla! site environment.

Random Qur'an Verse Module (Optional)

4) Upload mod_quran.zip via the Joomla! Module Installer. You can then go to your Module manager and publish it and put it where you want.

5) You are done! Go to http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?option=com_quran to access your Qur'an component.
